ILOILO City – San Beda University Red Lions has accepted the challenge to play the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in a goodwill basketball match on March 15 at the University of San Agustin Gym here.
Ilonggo sportsman Rodolfo Go Villaruz said the Red Lions agreed to take over the spot of Southwestern University Cobras which was supposed to face the Fighting Maroons.
The Red Lions is on a rebuilding mode after failing to defend its NCAA men’s seniors basketball championship; it was defeated by Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights in the finals.
Set to banner the Red Lions were last season’s MVP awardee Calvin Oftana, James Canlas, John Bahio, Franz Abuda, Pedro Alfaro III, Kemark Carino, and Damie Cuntapay.
The Fighting Maroons were coming off a third place finish in the UAAP Season 82 men’s basketball season where they were defeated twice by the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers in the step-ladder semifinals.
Still with the Fighting Maroons in the goodwill matches are Ricci Rivero, Kobe Paras, Bright Akhuetie, and David Murrell as well as some of their new recruits for the upcoming UAAP Season./PN
