Treñas’ driver in ‘hot water’ for shooting neighbor’s cow

ILOILO City – A backup driver of Mayor Jerry Treñas was charged before the Iloilo City Prosecutor’s Office with illegal discharge of firearm and violation of the Animal Welfare Act of 1998.

The 49-year-old Carlito Abonador, a resident of Barangay Buhang, Jaro district, taken to the Jaro police station on Wednesday.

Neighbor Leira May Corral complained to the police that the driver shot dead her cow.

The cow apparently strayed into Abonador’s property resulting to the death of the driver’s fighting cock, said Police Captain Eduardo Siacon, Jaro police station commander.

“He got angry,” said Siacon.

Abonador admitted shooting Corral’s cow, according to the Jaro police chief, and surrendered his .9mm pistol to the police station.

The gun had legal documents.

But Siacon said, “We are planning to apply for the revocation of his license.”

The Jaro police station would also check with the Civil Security Unit of the Police Regional Office 6 if Abonador had other registered firearms.

Siacon said the Jaro police station received reports from neighbors about Abonador’s actuations.

“Indi manami ang feedback sang iya neighbors. Gapakawal kuno permi sang armas kag nagapanaya-taya,” said Siacon./PN
