MANILA – Bacolodnon guard Ralph Penuela will finally wear the San Beda University Red Lions’ colors in their campaign of reclaiming the lost trophy in the Season 96 of the NCAA Men’s Basketball later this year.
A former standout of Hua Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix, Penuela is expected to serve as one of the Red Lions’ guards after the switch of allegiance of Evan Nelle to the De La Salle University Green Archers.
Prior his move to the many-time NCAA Men’s Basketball champions, Penuela has played for the University of the East Red Warriors in the UAAP.
Red Lions team manager Jude Roque said that the Bacolod City-native is good to go for the squad after missing the entire Season 95 action last year due to academic problems.
“Ralph Penuela is a veteran guard who would have played for us last season if not for academic woes,” Roque said. “But he is good to go this year and we are expecting him to make an immediate impact.”
Truly so, Penuela was instrumental in the San Beda’s 76-53 win over Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights in the 2020 Philippine Collegiate Champions League on Feb. 9 by scoring 16 points./PN
