MANILA – Salvacion “Sally” Gerona, mother of Vice President Leni Robredo, has passed away on Saturday evening. She was 83.
Robredo confirmed her mother’s passing in her Facebook account.
She said her mother’s wake will start at 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Eternal Gardens, Balatas Road in Naga City.
Gerona was a teacher by profession who served at the Universidad de Sta. Isabel in Naga, one of the oldest schools in the Philippines.
Robredo rushed home to Naga City last month to be with her ailing mother – the day after she announced that Gerona’s health had improved.
Malacañang on Sunday has expressed its condolence on the passing of Gerona, who was described as “a selfless and dedicated teacher who molded countless of young minds across generations.”
“We wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to Vice President Ma. Leonor “Leni” Robredo for the passing of her beloved mother, Ms. Salvacion Gerona,” Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said.
“In this time of bereft, we also offer our thoughts and sympathy to the family, relatives and friends of Ms. Gerona,” he added. “We pray that the perpetual light will shine upon Ms. Gerona, and that her soul, through the mercy of God, may rest in eternal happiness and peace.”/PN
