As two more players came under fire for participating in “ligang labas” without the green light from their mother ball clubs, Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner Willie Marcial said that the league will now impose hefty punishment on violators.
Marcial told Buzzer Beater during the league’s annual media day that he came up with a memorandum that will have players caught playing in ligang labas pay at least a P50,000 fine and/or suspensions.
Marcial’s memo was made after Alaska Aces’ Vic Manuel and Magnolia Hotshots’ Jiovani Jalalon were spotted playing an outside league in Calamba, Laguna, which is a clear violation of the PBA rules and the Uniform Players Contract (UPC) signed with their respective teams.
“Sinabihan ko silang dalawa. Sa susunod, pag inulit niyo ‘yun, baka P75,000 or P100,000, kasi sinabihan ko na kayo eh,” Marcial said, pertaining to Manuel and Jalalon, who were both penalized by their squads.
This was not the first time that players were penalized for playing in an unsanctioned league, as San Miguel Beermen’s Arwind Santos, Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters’ Calvin Abueva and former PBA player Renz Palma were also punished before.
There was a scary story that happened from playing in ligang labas. Rain or Shine Elasto Painters’ Chris Exciminiano suffered a serious injury that prevented him from signing a new contract with the team.
“Talagang bawal ‘yan.
Ma-injure ‘yan, kawawa kasi pati ‘yung UPC nila puwedeng mawala sa kanila ‘yun,” he added.

BLIND ITEM: A famous sports personality could have been involved in a huge controversy many years ago, had he not done any measures that prevented the incident from going out in the public.
A source told Buzzer Beater that the famous sports personality was nearly complained by his neighbors inside an exclusive subdivision due to the “loud noise” in the wee hours of the night.
Syempre, the (famous sports personality) should be careful because he has many many businesses here, as in many many,” the source concluded./PN
