Fire victims get assistance

ILOILO City – The city government has extended help to 37 families displaced by Monday’s fire in Barangay Gen. Hughes, City Proper.

Upon the directive of Mayor Jerry Trenas, the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) distributed food and non-food assistance.

The mayor himself also promised financial assistance.

The city government thanked the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), private donors, Philippine Red Cross, City Health Office medics and as well as the barangay council of Gen. Hughes for their cooperation.

The displaced families were temporarily housed at Fort San Pedro National High School.

According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, a total of 28 houses were razed      by the fire – 24 totally damaged while four partially damaged.

The 37 displaced families were made up of 166 individuals./PN
