‘Report price freeze violators,’ group urged consumers

LABAN Konsyumer Inc. is calling on the public to report retailers who violate the price freeze for basic commodities amid the state of public health emergency due to COVID-19 threat.

Tayong mga consumer meron tayong mga tungkulin na dapat gampanan,” Laban Konsyumer president Vic Dimagiba said in a television interview Wednesday.

Dimagiba stressed that consumers should observe if the government’s guidelines on price freeze are posted in a conspicuous space inside stores and groceries.

May umiiral na price freeze… dapat naka-paskil ‘yan,” he said.

The consumer group chief also called on law enforces such as the police to arrest retailers violating the price freeze.

Maganda sana ma-implement ang sistema. Gawin nila ‘yung mga pulis tikitan ang mga retailers,” Dimagiba said.

Gawin ‘yung tamang sistema na hulihin,” he added.

Under the Joint Memorandum Circular of the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Agriculture and the Department of Health, the price freeze covers all persons, including those who sell through the internet or other media.

The price freeze will be in effect until May 15.

Any person or entity found violating the Price Act will be fined between P5,000 and P2 million and face imprisonment between five and 15 years.(GMA News)
