BACOLOD City – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts’ athletics team will not be able to defend its overall championship in the postponed Filipino-Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation (FCAAF) Track and Field Invitational Cup this year.

In a statement, the FCAAF said that this year’s tournament in the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City will be suspended until further notice due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak in the country.

Last year, the Thunderbolts’ athletics team emerged as the overall champion in the elementary category and settled for a runner-up finish in the secondary level.

Hannah Jandra Delotavo, who was hailed as the Most Valuable Player last year in the secondary division for winning four golds medals and a silver, said that she is still hoping that the tournament will still push through to a later date.

“I am still hopeful that I can play for the last time for Tay Tung,” said Delotavo, who recently committed to play for De La Salle University in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines. “I still continue to train with my sisters even if we are under community quarantine.”

On the other hand, Tay Tung’s most bemedaled athlete two years ago, Antonette Jay Aguillon, is also wishing that the tournament will push through. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, she stills keeps on putting the load in conditioning herself.

“I am very much excited pa naman to play in FCAAP. Hopefully, matuloy pa din,” Aguillon said. “Since we can’t train as a team, I am doing extra work lang everyday here sa amin to be ready if ever na matuloy ‘yung tournament.”/PN
