1 sack of rice for every Guimaras family

ILOILO  City – So no one would go hungry during the enhanced community quarantine in Guimaras Island, its provincial government purchased 53,000 sacks of rice from the National Food Authority (NFA).

Each family in the province will receive one sack of rice, according to Gov. Samuel Gumarin.

The provincial government turned over relief items, including rice, to every municipality as the province started observing an enhanced community quarantine effective April 15.

Gumarin personally delivered a total of 24,451 sacks of rice to the municipalities.

Sibunag’s Mayor Anabelle Samaniego received 5,647 sacks of rice and 495 boxes of canned goods.

Four hundred ninety-five boxes of canned goods and 6,815 sacks of rice were handed to Mayor Ninfa Gajo of San Lorenzo.

The provincial government turned over 4,484 sacks of rice and 495 boxes of canned goods to Nueva Valencia and these were received by Mayor Emmanuel Galila. 

Mayor Ruben Corpuz of Jordan received 4,507 sacks of rice and 495 boxes of canned goods.

The provincial government t handed over 2,998 sacks of rice and 495 boxes of canned goods to Buenavista, received by Mayor Eugenio Reyes. 

The rice turned over to Jordan, Buenavista and Nueva Valencia were just partial allocations.

More stocks purchased by the provincial government t from NFA are due to arrive next week.

The municipalities were entrusted to distribute the goods to their constituents to ease the sufferings of the Guimarasnons affected by the measures put in place to combat the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. 

“Magahatag ang probinsiya sang isa ka sako nga bugas sa kada pamilya sa Guimaras agud makabulig sa mga  pumuluyo naton nga apektado sang COVID-19 quarantine. Kuntani ini makabulig sa aton mga pumuluyo agud mapahagan-hagan ang epekto sang sini nga krisis,” Gumarin said.

As of this writing, Guimaras remained the only province in Western Visayas with no confirmed case of COVID-19.

Gumarin appealed to Guimarasnons to do their share in keeping the island COVID-free.

“Nagapangayo gid ako sang kooperasyon sang tanan. Bululigan naton nga maprotektahan aton probinsiya. Magsunod lang sa mga guidelines nga ginapatuman,” said Gumarin./PN
