MANILA – Retired football forward Phil Younghusband said that he is willing to join the coaching staff of the country’s national football team in the future.
Speaking on Neil Etheridge’s Isolation Catch-Up Instagram Live show recently, the Filipino-British is not closing his doors on helping the Azkals in a different capacity.
“To be honest, I haven’t actually missed playing. I’ve actually enjoyed sitting back, watching and enjoying football for what it is,” he said. “I’ve always said that my role in Philippine football and my exposure to Philippine football hasn’t come to an end.”
“In the future, I would like to still be part of the growth,” the 32-year-old former Azkals mainstay added. “We can all admit that we’ve sort of plateaued. And where do we go from now?”
“In the future, I still want to give back because Philippine football has given me so much, and the Philippines is my mother’s homeland. It’s my home as well. So, I do have plans in the future of doing something for Philippine football,” he stressed.
His possible entry to the national team’s coaching staff, however, will not happen soon since his current focus is on growing a family.
“When that position or role comes, it’s about timing in my personal life and Philippine football. It has to coincide. I think timing is important,” Younghusband said.
“I still feel I have a role in Philippine football, whether be it in the next year, the next ten years or 20 years. I still feel I have a role in football, so, there’s another chapter in the story. I think that’s why I don’t think this is the end,” he added./PN
