MANILA – After being released by National Collegiate Athletic Association of the Philippines team Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, Ilonggo forward Ronrei Tolentino found a new home in University of the East (UE).
Tolentino confirmed to Panay News yesterday his move that was made possible through Ilonggo sportsman Rodolfo Go Villaruz.
“I am glad that they have accepted me. I’ll do my best here in UE. I won’t waste the opportunity they have given me,” said Tolentino, a former standout of Iloilo National High School.
He added: “The coaches and the players
are very welcoming. They made me feel at home immediately. I will be serving a
one year residency, so, I will use that time to familiarize myself with the
team’s system.”
Villaruz, for his part, said that he was glad to have introduced Tolentino to
UE Red Warriors head coach Jack Santiao after knowing the forward was released
by the Generals.
“I recommended him to coach Jack, and coach Jack was impressed with him that he immediately secured his commitment,” Villaruz said. “I know that Tolentino is a talented player. I hope that he will stay for good in UE.”
The 6-foot-3 Tolentino was a former member of the Western Visayas team that competed in the 2017 Palarong Pambansa before being recruited by the Far Eastern University Baby Tamaraws./PN
