200 kilos of ‘hot meat’ seized

BACOLOD City – About 200 kilos of “hot meat” were seized by authorities from a man at a quarantine checkpoint in Barangay Sum-ag.

Jun Rosaut, 29, of Barangay Singcang-Airport was tagged suspect, police said.

Police officers flagged down Rosaut who was onboard a tricycle carrying the “hot meat” around 5:30 p.m. on May 3.

City Veterinary Office head Ma. Agueda Dela Torre and Task Force Botagoy verified that the meat products were illegally slaughtered as it did not pass through the slaughterhouse of this city. The “hot meat” came from the town of Valladolid, Negros Occidental, the police added. “Hot meat” means carcass or parts of a carcass of food animals that were slaughtered by unaccredited meat establishments. This raises the possibility that the meat being sold may potentially be unsafe or spoiled.
Rosaut was brought to Police Station 9, while the seized meat products were brought to the slaughterhouse in Barangay Handumanan and were immediately burned./PN
