BACOLOD City — Only six of the 48 wells of the Bacolod City Water District (Baciwa) have generators, director Marcihi Ramos revealed.
“Ideally, all wells should have a standby generator,” Ramos told Panay News yesterday. “In case a city-wide blackout occurs, water can still be made available.”
She also lamented that some wells of Baciwa only has a water production of 20–30 percent of what is expected.
Baciwa should install generators for all its wells as soon as possible, especially with the unstable power supply in the island, she stressed.
The water district should also explore alternative sources, like surface water, “which is still abundant in Bacolod,” Ramos said.
Unfortunately, the expansion project of Baciwa focuses more on tapping ground water, she said.
“Surface water (in the city) has not been tapped for nearly 30 years” already, she pointed out.
“Providing continuous water supply should be a priority of Baciwa,” she added./PN
