It is now getting clearer that the National Basketball Association (NBA) will restart its 2019-2020 regular season which was halted by the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic since March 11.
The league announced on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) that they are now in talks with the Walt Disney Company about restarting the season by late July at the latter’s property outside of Orlando, Florida.
“The NBA, in conjunction with the National Basketball Players Association, is engaged in exploratory conversations with The Walt Disney Company about restarting the 2019-20 NBA season in late July at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida as a single site for an NBA campus for games, practices and housing,” said NBA chief communications officer Mike Bass.
“Our priority continues to be the health and safety of all involved, and we are working with public health experts and government officials on a comprehensive set of guidelines to ensure that appropriate medial protocols and protections are in place,” he added.
Meanwhile, Sham Charania of The Athletic said in a separate report on Sunday that the league is still debating on how to resume the season.
According to him, the league has sent out a survey detailing a number of options regarding resumption of play to general managers of the teams./PN
