ILOILO City – Fed up with frequent power outages, a group of power consumers formed a coalition to monitor the service of the metro’s new power distributor More Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power).
Koalisyon Bantay Kuryente was launched Friday during a virtual presser. Ruperto Supeña was named interim chairman and Jose Allen Aquino was coordinator of the coalition.
According to Aquino, the coalition will serve as a venue or platform where residents could air their power distribution concerns.
The coalition will bring up these complaints to MORE Power, said Aquino.
Should there be inaction, Aquino said they are ready to bring the matter to the Energy Regulatory Commision (ERC).
For his part, Supeña said MORE Power appeared to have poor technical expertise, citing 13-hour brownouts.
“Mananawagan kami sa Congress to investigate,” said Supeña.
He appealed to Lone District Rep. Juliene Baronda to initiate a congressional inquiry.
Supeña also appealed to the Sangguniang Panlungsod to conduct a public hearing and invite all stakeholders.
MORE Power previously assured residents that the city’s power supply would stabilize under its watch.
