ILOILO City – To bring science and technology closer to its customers, the Department of Science and Technology Region VI (DOST VI) continues to deliver technology services amidst the COVID-19 health crisis. DOST VI started the online technology trainings with the requests from QB’s Solar-Powered Ice Cubes in Antique on current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and MLKT Iloilo for training on Food Safety.
Technology Training services involve the conduct of various technical trainings and assistance for free, particularly for MSME development and information dissemination. DOST VI taps local experts and those from the DOST Research and Development Institutes (RDIs) as resource persons. This is in support of the activities of the regional office in promoting technology transfer and commercialization, productivity enhancement, and technical capability development/skills upgrading. The technical assistance of the regional office includes expert services, advisory services, troubleshooting, training, and seminars to interested groups/associations in Western Visayas.
QB’s technology needs were addressed by DOST VI resource person Ms. Jhoanna N. Bolencis during the online video conferencing last May 28. QB is in urgent need for updated training to support its FDA license to operate renewal. The requirements of Good Manufacturing Practices and the importance and benefits of GMP implementation in the food business were discussed. Also, the Training on Food safety was made possible online with MLKT Iloilo.
The training enabled the firm to identify and describe the symptoms of foodborne illness, the different hazards on food, and how to keep food safe.
The DOST VI online training does not only aim to fast-track the technology transfer and commercialization services but more importantly, to bring science and technology practitioners closer to their customers.
