ILOILO – Better late than never. A total of 2,000 typhoon-affected families from four towns in the 1st District will be receiving housing materials from the National Housing Authority (NHA).

An initial of 500 families from 15 barangays of Guimbal received P5,000 worth of housing materials each.

1st District’s Cong. Richard Garin and NHA community relations officer Ma. Luz S. Ysatam led the distribution at the Guimbal covered gym on Friday.

Each recipient family got two pieces of plywood, seven pieces corrugated galvanized iron sheets, 12 pieces lumber, and five kilos of nails.

Garin said this was a long-delayed project of his wife, former congresswoman Janette Garin who is now an undersecretary of the Department of Health.

The recipients were not super typhoon “Yolanda” victims but those hit by typhoon “Quinta” in 2012 yet.

The recipients were all indigents as validated by barangay officials.

Garin urged the recipients to use the materials as intended – for the repair of their houses.

Typhoon “Quinta” victims from towns of Oton, San Joaquin and Igbaras will also receive similar help soon, Garin said./PN
