Firearms intercepted in Aklan; 3 men nabbed

ILOILO City – Firearms and bullets were intercepted at the Caticlan Jetty port in Malay, Aklan.
Taken to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Aklan were 31-year-old Marvin Miranda of Negros Oriental; 62-year-old Mario Fuyal of Taguig City; and 34-year-old Adolfo Obiacoro of Cavite, a police report showed.
According to CIDG in Region 6 chief Lieutenant Colonel Gervacio Balmaceda Jr., Miranda is an army reservist based on his identification card while Fuyal is a retired army.

Balmaceda said the three failed to present complete documents for the firearms and ammunitions.

Police Regional Office 6 spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Gilbert Gorero, for his part, said the three were nabbed around 9 p.m. on June 29 after CIDG-6 received information that a sports utility vehicle loaded with firearms and bullets will arrive at the port from Batangas onboard a roll-on/roll-off vessel.

“The police intercepted them upon their arrival.  (The suspects) yielded firearms and ammunition and they violated a quarantine protocol,” said Gorero.

“They were arrested because of strict implementation of quarantine and because of the tips given to the police,” he added.

Police recovered from the suspects the following items:

* one unit of 12-gauge shotgun

* four long steel magazines for 12-gauge shotgun
* one short steel magazine for 12-gauge shotgun
* 17 pieces cartridge for 12-gauge shotgun
* one unit of .45-caliber pistol
* two steel magazines for .45-caliber pistol
* 23 pieces live ammunition for .45-caliber pistol

* one unit of .9mm pistol

* 61 pieces live ammunition for .9mm pistol

* four pieces magazine for .9mm pistol

* one unit of .380 pistol

* two pieces steel magazine for .380 pistol

* 12 pieces live ammunition for .380 pistol

* one piece holster for .9mm

* one piece holster for .380 pistol

* one piece magazine pouch for .380 pistol

* one box of ammunition consisting 100 rounds for .9mm

* 100 rounds .9mm live ammunition (reload)

* two ammunition box for .45-caliber

* 77 pieces live ammunition for .45 caliber

* 31 pieces live ammunition for 12-gauge shotgun;

* one piece steel ammo box

The suspects claimed they are supposed to Negros Island but did not reveal who the owner of the items was.

Charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and for violation of quarantine protocol will be filed against them./PN
