ROXAS City – Ten towns in this province have shown support to House Bill 6875, or the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 which aims to strengthen peace and order in the country.
Based on the record of the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) as of June 29, the municipalities of Cuartero, Dao, Dumalag, Ivisan, Maayon, Mambusao, Panay, Panitan, Pilar, and Tapaz have expressed support to the bill.
“Let us help one another by signifying our support on the manifesto so that we could convey that Capiz is supporting the anti-terrorism bill,” said CPPO-Provincial Operation Management Unit acting chief Major Renante Matillano during a Provincial Peace and Order Council meeting earlier this week.
He presented the CPPO’s accomplishments, in the presence of Capiz police director Colonel Julio Gustilo Jr., before the Council members that also included in attendance local chief executives and local government units (LGUs) representatives, among others.
According to Matillano, the report will reach Camp Crame and the President will eventually see who among the LGUs have not yet expressed support to the legislation.
“The remaining LGUs are on the process,” he added, noting that coordination efforts have also been made for the support of this province to the measure that is now awaiting the signature of President Rodrigo Duterte.
The bill carries provisions imposing life imprisonment without parole on those who will participate in the planning, training, preparation, and facilitation of a terrorist act; possess objects connected with the preparation for the commission of terrorism; or collect or make documents connected with the preparation of terrorism.
It also calls for 12 years imprisonment to persons who shall threaten to commit terrorism and those who will propose any terroristic acts or incite others to commit terrorism.
This province is composed of 16 towns and one component city. (With a report from PIA/PN)
