BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) urged the city government’s Department of Social Services and Development to do something about mentally-ill persons here, especially those roaming aimlessly.
Some of these persons were destructive of public and private properties, according to the SP in an approved resolution authored by Councilor Archie Baribar.
Residents were getting anxious, according to the city council.
Motorists, too, were complaining about these mentally-ill persons putting everyone’s lives at risk on the streets.
In a related development, Baribar will lead an SP public hearing on July 6 on the request of business groups to relax the current curfew hours.
At present, the curfew hours are between 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. The ordinance for this (“Non-Social Period Ordinance of Bacolod City”) was authored by Baribar in line with the community quarantine against the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019.
Business groups proposed a 12 midnight to 4 a.m. curfew.
Mentally-ill persons were observed to be violating the curfew, too./PN
