MANILA – Filipina Ella Patrice Fajardo credited summer training in the Philippines best for her success in the field of basketball.
She committed recently her services to United States (US) National Collegiate Athletic Association Division 1 school Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Fairleigh Dickinson is a private university in New Jersey.
Fajardo, whose mother hails from Bacolod City, said it was in the Basketball Efficiency and Scientific Training (BEST) Center here where she developed the baby steps of her game.
She was in the country with her family from the US every summer break to enroll at the center with her two younger sisters.
“Everything I am right now as a player is because of the BEST Center. Basketball starts with the fundamentals. I did learn from the BEST Center,” said Fajardo.
“There is definitely a big difference in how fundamentals are taught in the US and in the Philippines,” she added. “In the Philippines, they are really patient. They are there step by step unlike in the States where they are more lenient.”
The five-foot-five Fajardo has won various caging awards and earned scholarships. She also became part of the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League with the New Jersey Sparks.
She represented the Gilas Pilipinas women’s basketball team during the FIBA 3×3 U18 Asia Cup 2019 in Malaysia. The team bagged home the bronze medal of the tournament./PN
