MANILA – Ghanian John Cofie backed out from his commitment with the Global-Makati FC as he slammed the controversial football club and its new investor Tami Mazinyi of being a “sham.”
The former Manchester United FC youth player said he sought for his release after not being paid his signing fee and six months worth of salary.
“I just told (Mazinyi) to sign my release form and because he knows everything he said was a lie, he didn’t argue and just signed my release papers,” Cofie said over KICK OFF PH.
The 27-year-old Cofie, who also have three appearances with the England national U-17 squad in 2010, has also warned football players who will be contacted by Mazinyi.
“This Global as a (football) club is a sham, the owner Tami is compulsive liar!” Cofie said in a separate Facebook post. “Any player thinking of signing for this club should think twice, because everything they say is a lie!”
“Tami just parties and travels and refuses to pay his players! He better never step(s) foot in Manchester again (because) I’ll actually batter him!” he added.
Salary issue on players is nothing new for the Global FC since they were still based in Cebu City and with their transfer to Makati City last year.
Early this year, Global-Makati announced its front office changes with Mazinyi’s Hong Kong Consortium Mazinyi Management LTD taking over./PN
