BACOLOD City – The local government unit here seeks to strike an agreement with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to construct more quarantine facilities for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients.
According to Mayor Evelio Leonardia, the city government is drafting a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with DPWH for the establishment of two of quarantine facilities worth P25 million, or P12.5 million each.
These facilities, Leonardia said, will supplement the bed capacity for indigent COVID-19 patients who do not need hospital care. Thus, hospitals will have more room to accommodate the critically-ill patients, he added.
“[I’m] grateful to DPWH regional director Lea Delfinado for working out this assistance to the city and with the endorsement of Cong. Greg Gasataya,” Leonardia said.
Each facility will be a one-story container van-type of structure with 16 isolation rooms, each with its own comfort room.
It will also come with a nurses’ station, a utility room, and quarters for medical personnel on duty.
Leonardia intends to present the MOA soon before the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
Once approved, construction can start in August. DPWH targets completion in only two months considering that it will be using pre-fabricated components./PN
