SAN JOSE, Antique – The municipality of San Remigio in this province has recorded its first confirmed case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
In a statement, Mayor Margarito Mission said Western Visayas Patient No. 867 is a locally stranded individual (LSI) who returned home from Pasay City last July 17.

“The patient is currently quarantined in our isolation facility. She is in a stable medical condition,” said Mission.

According to the mayor, the patient had her specimen collected last July 21 while her result of testing positive for the virus came out on July 23.

“This should serve as a reminder for all of us to not be complacent and follow the guidelines set forth by the Department of Health and the Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19,” he said, adding that they are doing the best to keep the residents safe.

Integrated Provincial Health Office information officer Irene Dulduco, for her part, said they have immediately conducted reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) or swab testing to four other persons who are also under quarantine at a day care center in San Remigio with the patient positive for the virus.
All the collected specimens will be sent to the Western Visayas Medical Center Department of Pathology, Sub National Laboratory in Mandurriao, Iloilo City for processing.
Dulduco said they are now working on the travel history of the LSI who tested positive for COVID-19 so that they could immediately conduct contact tracing. (With a report from PNA/PN)
