Manila – University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs have netted two more players from Cebu City as the team continued its overhaul for the UAAP Season 83 juniors basketball action next year.

UST head coach Aldin Ayo told Panay News that the Tiger Cubs have secured the commitments of 6-foot-3 Nichole Jay Cabanero and 6-foot-2 Vincent Raymund Escobido II from the Don Bosco Technical College Greywolves.

The one-time NCAA and UAAP champion coach added that he expects both Cabanero and Escobido to be main contributors on offense under Tiger Cubs head coach Jinino Manansala.

“These are talented players plus all of them are coming from the provinces,” Ayo said. “It’s an honor for us to give opportunities to players who come from provinces. We’re going to take good care of them.”

Cabanero and Escobido joins the growing list of Tiger Cubs recruits from Visayas aside from fellow CESAFI standout LA Casinillo of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu and Rogelle Alvaladejo and Mark Joseph Jayme from Santa Clarita International School Primes in Iloilo City.

Ayo also said that they are currently in talks with three more players from Iloilo City with their commitments to the Tiger Cubs program expected to be completed this week.

“The three players have already verbally committed to the Tiger Cubs,” Ayo said. “We expect to complete all the necessary documents needed to complete their transfer in the coming days.”
