BACOLOD City – The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has granted the request of the local government unit here to impose a one-week moratorium on the return of Bacolodnon overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) stranded in Manila due to quarantine travel restrictions.
Councilor Renecito Novero, chairman of the Quarantine Center Action Team (QCAT), said OWWA Region 6 director Rizza Moldes approved the travel ban that takes effect today, Aug. 3.
Novero underscored the need for a moratorium on the travel OFWs, saying hotels in the city serving as quarantine facilities will soon hit full capacity.
He also disclosed that some hotels had a problem with OWWA with regards to the agency’s unsettled accounts.
According to Novero, there are a total of 21 hotels and inns housing OFWs who are observing the mandatory 14-day quarantine.
“The moratorium granted by the OWWA has an impact in terms of the expenses of the government for they can save for a week the food expenses,” Novero pointed out./PN
