ILOILO – The Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College (NIPSC), Barotac Viejo campus received 10 heads of “caracow” from the Department of Agriculture (DA), Western Visayas Livestock Program as part of their livelihood assistance at the NIPSC Campus, Barotac Viejo, Iloilo.
During the July 30 turn over ceremony NIPSC Campus Administrator Dr. Eduardo Octavio Jr. said the 10 heads of caracow is such a big help for the school’s agriculture students in terms of instruction, especially for those taking up Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Animal Science.
The aim for food sufficiency in this time of crisis and pandemic is the utmost goal of every agency and institution. The 10 caracows is also intended for breeding and dairy, said Octavio.
Dr. Maita A. Gonzales, dean of NIPSC’s College of Agriculture, commended the DA for the continuous grants extended to the school. The aim for agricultural development as part of their student enhancement program and trainings like castration, artificial insemination will be greatly attained, she said.
DA-Western Visayas previously extended various agricultural inputs to NIPSC such as mechanical dryer, tractor and other farm implements to its 2.5-hectare pasture area with corn and vegetable plantation and now with an added 10 heads of caracow as part of their livestock livelihood assistance.
DA-WV APCO for Iloilo Ernie Rosendo Villanueva, Dr. Ma. Theresa Palmares, NIPSC president and Atty. James Balsomo, board of trustees member, joined the memorandum of agreement signing. (J. Capaciete, DA-6, RAFIS/PN)
