MANILA – Ilonggo boxer Jomar Fajardo was unsuccessful in his return bout after suffering a second round defeat to Thai boxer Thattana Luangphon over the weekend at Workpoint Studio in Bang Phun, Thailand.
It was the second consecutive defeat of the Maasin, Iloilo-native but now Thailand-based Fajardo after being stopped by Chinese boxer Wulan Tuolehazi last March also in Thailand.
It was a struggle for 28-year-old Fajardo since moving to Thailand last year as he lost four of his six matches with his two wins coming against Visut Tamkhuntod last year and Narin Tuekpo last January.
Against Luangphon, Fajardo tried his best to keep in step with the heavily-favored Thai boxer but the latter was able to dominate the Ilonggo boxer until he was floored at the mid part of second period of the six-round match.
With the defeat, Fajardo saw his boxing record dropped to 17-17-2 win-loss-draw with nine stoppage wins.
Luangphon, on the other hand, was able to maintain his unblemished slate as he improved to 11-0-1, with 10 victories by knockouts.
Luangphon is also scheduled to return to the ring next month against Filipino Joel Kwong for his WBC Asia Boxing Council super bantamweight title defense./PN
