MANILA – United City FC is close to completing its signing of former Ceres-Negros FC players after coming to terms with Bienvenido Marañón and Robert Lopez Mendy.
In a series of social media posts over the weekend, the United City FC announced the signing of Marañón and Lopez Mendy, who played a key role in Ceres-Negros’ campaign last year.
The Spanish striker Marañón, who is a candidate for naturalization for possible Philippine Azkals stint, is entering his fifth year with the franchise and has led the Busmen’s four championships in the last three years.
Lopez Mendy, on the other hand, will be on his second year with the squad after suiting up for Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo before. Just like Marañón, Lopez Mendy is also up for naturalization process.
Other former Ceres-Negros players who have also signed up with the United City FC were Filipino-Japanese Hikaru Minegishi, Takashi Odawara, Angelo Marasigan, and Dennis Villanueva.
They will join previous signees team captain and playing assistant coach Stephan Schrock, Jose Elmer Porteria, Sean Kane, Ronito Bayan, and Jun Badelic.
The United City FC is preparing for its third title defense in the 2020 Philippines Football League possibly next month while they will also continue Ceres-Negros’ campaign in the 2020 Asian Football Confederation Cup./PN
