SAN JOSE, Antique – The Department of Education (DepEd) in this province is ready for the opening of classes this school year.

“The principals are all ready for the first month opening of schools,” DepEd Division of Antique superintendent Felisa Beriong said on Aug. 4, adding that classes will see the introduction of blended learning through cable television, radio and modules.

“The provincial government is now in the process of bidding for the risograph and paper needed for the mass reproduction of the modules that would be distributed to the pupils as there will still be no face to face classroom instructions yet,” Beriong pointed out.

“I am also glad that the municipal governments are utilizing their Special Education Funds to provide the needs of the schools,” she added.

The provincial school board also approved P5 million for the purchase of transistor radios that will be distributed to students whose parents could not afford to buy one.

DepEd-Antique’s data as of Aug. 3 showed that 126, 490 learners from kindergarten to senior high school and students with disabilities have already enrolled in public schools for this year.

The University of Antique – lone state university and college in this province – has accepted 735 junior and senior high school students. This is equivalent to 84 percent compared with last year’s enrolment of 875 learners.

In private schools, 8,875 learners have enrolled, which is equivalent to 52.84 percent of last year’s enrolment of 16,793.

Moreover, 3,876 learners have enrolled under the Alternative Learning School, which is equivalent to 65.47 percent of last year’s 5,920 enrolled learners.

Beriong urged parents to enroll their children as schools in this province will still accept them. (With a report from PNA/PN)
