TALISAY City — Now is the time to invest in tourism, especially in domestic tourism, according to Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr.

“Businessmen should invest in tourism-oriented facilities, especially in local destinations,” Marañon said during yesterday’s opening of Campuestohan Highland Resort in Brgy. Cabatangan here.

The Philippines’ tourism is booming now, and its economy is doing well, said the governor.

Most people have money to spend for trips and vacations in various tourist destinations across the country, he said.

In Negros Occidental alone, tourist arrivals increased by 17 percent in 2013, he said.

Marañon also commended the effort of former Bacolod City councilor Ricardo Tan for investing in Campuestohan.

“Other businessmen should follow his lead,” the governor pointed out.

In a rare show of support, nine mayors in the province attended the event.

They were Eric Saratan of this city, Melecio Yap of Escalante City, Mario Magno of San Enrique town, Jose Max Ortiz of Salvador Benedicto, Jose Maria Alonzo of Pontevedra, Agustin Bascon of Himamaylan City, Romel Yogore of Valladolid, Richard Jaojoco of Toboso and Monico Puentevella of Bacolod City./PN
