MANILA – Three Western Visayan stars will be growling with the University of Santo Tomas girls’ basketball team.
Bacoldnon Charity Grace Gicana, Ilongga Glydelle Mae Gultiano and Aklanon Rosalyn Penticase are the three standouts of this region who will help the squad defend its title in University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 83 slated early next year.
“The first time I talked with the UST coaching staff was during the 2017 Palarong Pambansa. I was undecided (pa) that time. Good thing nandyan pa rin ang offer ng school,” said the former Bacolod City National High School star Gicana.
The Dingle, Iloilo native Gultiano, for her part, was being recruited by UST girls’ basketball assistant coach Joan “Ford” Grajales during a regional basketball meet in Capiz.
“As her coach here in Dingle National High School, I am proud that she was recruited by UST. I personally saw kung papaano siya nag-improve each year. She will definitely have an impact there,” said Prandy John Wong.
Penticase, on the other hand, is the standout of Ibajay, Aklan. She is known for winning multiple trophies and Most Valuable Player awards.
The UST girls’ basketball team was declared as co-champions with University Baby Falcons in UAAP Season 82, which was cut short due to coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic./PN
