ILOILO – A 62-year-old immuno-compromised male resident of Barangay Botongon, Estancia town died of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
He expired at the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao, Iloilo City on Aug. 12.
“He had lung cancer and had been in and out of the hospital,” said Dr. Greg Rolan Sumile, municipal health officer.
The patient was hospitalized on Aug. 9. He had difficulty breathing. That was also when he was swabbed for COVID testing.
The test result was released on Aug. 10; he had COVID-19. He died two days after.
How did the man contract COVID-19?
His family was in the fishing business and family members would often go to the Estancia fish port.
“Ang possible source amo ang iya miembro sang family…However, wala sang may nagmasakit kay puro sila mabaskug,” said Sumile.
As of Aug. 15, Estancia had 11 COVID-19 cases – seven local cases, one repatriated overseas worker and three locally stranded individuals.
Of the seven local cases, six were in Barangay Botongon.
Sumile, however, said the death of the 62-year-old immuno-compromised male had nothing to do with the barangay’s earlier COVID cases.
“Lain nga mga purok. Indi sila lapitanay,” said Sumile.
Here’s the breakdown of Estancia’s 11 COVID cases:
