Carlsen Chess Tour semis: Carlsen strikes back, Nakamura wins anew

World chess champion Magnus Carlsen struck back in the second set of his best-of-five semifinal matches against Liren Ding, winning 2½-½, to level the score in the Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour on the chess24.com server.

The other semifinal match saw Hikaru Nakamura crush Daniil Dubov, 3-1, to move to within a set of claiming the first finals seat.

Carlsen had very little problem disposing Ding, beating the Chinese GM in the first two games before easily drawing the third to wrap up the set.

Ding defeated the world champion in the first set by drawing their Armageddon tiebreaker with the black pieces.
On the other hand, Nakamura was never in any trouble against Dubov. The American chess ace pressed his Russian opponent who escaped with draws in Games 1 and 2 before opening up with both barrels and winning Games 3 and 4.

While the Carlsen versus Ding match could go the full distance, Nakamura only needs to win the third set of his match against Dubov to become the first finalist of the lucrative tour.
