COVID-19 hits Bacolod vice mayor’s ‘apo’

BACOLOD City – Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran’s nine-year-old apo (granddaughter) tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The granddaughter’s swab result was released last week, Familiaran himself announced.

“It is my duty to inform the public that we are all practicing precautionary measures and stringent health protocols in my household. Yet, one of my loving and caring granddaughters has been tested positive for COVID-19,” Familiaran wrote on Facebook.

The child – asymptomatic – was a daughter of Barangay 13 captain Tanya Familiaran.

“She is being closely monitored by Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Andy Panes and her mom Tanya,” the grandfather said.

Familiaran encouraged the public to be extra vigilant and observe all health protocols at home and in public places to protect family members and the city at large.

“Let us all unite in prayer for God Almighty to protect, heal and restore our families to good health and stop the spread of COVID-19 in Jesus mighty name. Amen!” wrote Familiaran.

The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales.

These droplets also land on objects and surfaces around the person. Other people then catch COVID-19 by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth.

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough.

Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell./PN
