ILOILO – The Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Oton town temporarily closed yesterday afternoon for a two-day disinfection.
It will reopen tomorrow, Sept. 10.
But the RHU ambulance would remain available for medical emergencies despite the temporary closure, stressed Jafet Salinas, designated focal person for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) of Oton.
The RHU’s decontamination is needed because one of its personnel was exposed to a confirmed COVID-19 case, said Salinas.
The personnel was told to observe home quarantine while waiting for the COVID test result.
As of Sept. 4, Oton recorded 89 confirmed COVID cases (21 active cases, one death, 67 recovered).
The 21 active cases were all indigenous cases or local transmissions. These were the following:
* five health workers
* five government employees
* five index case
* one hospital clerk
* one microfinance employee
* one dialysis patient
* two pregnant women
* one home-based caregiver
People can catch COVID-19 from others who have the virus. The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales.
These droplets also land on objects and surfaces around the person. Other people then catch COVID-19 by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth./PN
