Nueva Valencia centenarian gets P100-K cash aid

ILOILO City – Ceferina “Pinang” Cornel, a centenarian in the town of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras had special guests on Tuesday: Personnel of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) who handed her a cash gift worth P100,000.

On top of the cash incentive, Cornel also received a letter of felicitation signed by President Rodrigo Duterte.
Fantonia, who celebrated her 100th birthday on Aug. 27, remains in good health and can move around, according to her family.

Vice Mayor Paul Vincent Dela Cruz of Nueva Valencia joined the DSWD officials for the turnover of cash gift and letter of felicitation to Cornel.

Under Republic Act 10868 (Centenarians Act of 2016) Filipinos who reach the age of 100 years old, whether residing in the Philippines or abroad, shall be honored with:

* a letter of felicitation from the President of the Philippines congratulating the celebrator for his or her longevity;

* a cash gift of P100,000

Centenarians are required to present to their respective Municipal Social Officer their birth certificates, endorsements from mayors, barangay certificates attesting to their being a hundred years old, Office of Senior Citizen Affairs identification cards, and baptismal certificates./PN
