Blackout hits Panay Island, parts of Negros

ILOILO City – Power interruption hit the entire Panay Island and Negros Occidental yesterday.

According to the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP), the blackout began at 10:13 a.m. due to a still unspecified grid disturbance that affected power distribution utilities. 

In Iloilo City, power distributor MORE Electric and Power Corp. energized its Molo Feeder 4 and 2 and Mandurriao Feeder 4 with a total of 9.8 megawatts as of 11:08 a.m.

However, the power distributor requested for a Manual Load Drop (MLD) at 1 p.m. due to insufficient power supply which caused the City Proper Feeder 2 to go offline at 1:08 p.m. and the Jaro Feeder 1 at 1:13 p.m.

At 1:43 p.m., MORE Power implemented rotational brownouts.

As of 8:01 p.m., all 22 feeders were energized with around 70 MW:

* Molo F 4 online at 11:40 a.m.

* Molo F 2 online at 11:50 a.m.

* Mandurriao F 4 online at 1:54 p.m.

* Molo F 1 online at 3:30 p.m.

* City Proper F 2 online at 4:35 p.m.

* City Proper F 4 online at 4:42 p.m.

* Mandurriao F 1 online at 4:43 p.m.

* Jaro F 1 online at 4:45 p.m.

* City Proper F 1 online at 4:48 p.m.

* Mandurriao F 2 online at 4:50 p.m.

* City Proper F 3 online at 4:53 p.m.

* Jaro F 2 online at 4:55 p.m.

* Lapaz F 2 online at 5:03 p.m.

* Lapaz F 4 online at 5:06 p.m.

* Lapaz F 5 online at 5:14 p.m.

* Molo F 3 online at 6:02 p.m.

* Molo F 5 online at 7:10 p.m.

* Lapaz F 1 online at 7:44 p.m.

* Lapaz F 3 online at 7:55 p.m.

* Mandurriao F 5 online at 7:58 p.m.

* Mandurriao F 3 online at 7:59 p.m.

* La Paz F 6 online at 8:01 p.m.

As of late afternoon yesterday, some of the areas in Panay Island were already energized.

Iloilo province is being serviced by Iloilo Electric Cooperative (Ileco) 1, 2 and 2 while Antique is being serviced by the Antique Electric Cooperative (Anteco).

In Aklan, the power distributor is the Aklan Electric Cooperative (Akelco) while Capiz is being serviced by the Capiz Electric Cooperative (Capelco).

Negros Occidental, on the other hand, has Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative, (Noceco), Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) and Northern Negros Electric Cooprative (Noneco). But the NGCP said only Noneco was affected./PN
