NegOcc guv opposes lifting of virus restrictions

BACOLOD City – It is not yet the time to relax, according to Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson of Negros Occidental.

He thumbed down the proposal for the gradual lifting of restrictions designed to stop the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVD-19).

Lacson was reacting to the #FlattenTheFear campaign launched by a group of doctors and businessmen last week.

This campaign urges the government to end lockdowns and promote proper nutrition to boost one’s immune system.

According to Dr. Joel Lopez of the Concerned Doctors and Citizens of the Philippines (CDC-PH), the prevention or early treatment of virus patients will “actually help ease the burden in hospitals.”

“Lockdowns can be gradually lifted once these measures are in place,” he added.

But Lacson is not keen on the CDC-PH’s proposal.

“It’s not just about strengthening one’s immune system by taking Vitamin C, Vitamin D and Z,” the governor pointed out.

He said the targeted lockdown that the group was pushing “is being implemented in areas under moderate general community quarantine.”

“Limiting the movement of people is the most effective way to stop the spread of COVID- 19,” Lacson said.

In late August, healthcare workers appealed to President Rodrigo Duterte to place virus epicenter Metro Manila under modified lockdown to give them a breather./PN
