MANILA – The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) is considering the possible lifting of travel restrictions on foreign nationals with Filipina fiances.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said the collegial body delegated a Technical Working Group (TWG) to study the lifting of travel restrictions after receiving letters from the “Love is Not Tourism” movement.
“Ang pag-uusapan (ng IATF-EID) ay ‘yung fiance/fiancee visa holders. ‘Yan ay pinag-aaralan,” Roque said in a virtual press conference on Monday. “Ang spouses, pwedeng pumasok sa bansa.”
The “Love is Not Tourism” movement, made by unmarried, long-distance couples, urged the IATF-EID as well as other countries to relax travel restrictions and allow them to reunite.
In response, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said the IATF-EID already formed a TWG to study the matter.
“We’re just waiting kung ano ‘yung magiging recommendations niyan,” Nograles said.
Only foreign nationals married to Filipinos are currently allowed to enter the country upon presentation of their marriage certificates./PN
