Cops arrest Miag-ao ‘gunsmith’

ILOILO City – A construction worker in Barangay Aguiauan, Miag-ao, Iloilo faces a charge for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

According to Police Captain Joevito Bose, Miag-ao police chief, they received information that 53-year-old Joemarie Arro manufactured guns illegally and also accepted gun repair jobs.

Operatives of the Miag-ao police station raided Arro’s house yesterday around 5:30 a.m.

Judge Nelita Jesusa Bacaling of the Regional Trial Court Branch 72 issued the search warrant.

The following items were confiscated from the suspect’s house:

* improvised 12-gauge shotgun

* five barrel of an improvised 12-gauge shotgun

* eight .38-caliber revolvers

* 12 assorted magazines of short firearms

* 45 live bullets of an M16 armalite rifle

* 74 live bullets of a .9-mm pistol

* assorted tools in gun-making 

* an unknown caliber of firearm

According to Bose, the suspect was placed under a week of surveillance prior to the raid.

Arro had been operating for quite sometime and nobody in the neighborhood knew about it, he added.

“We are validating reports that he was a gun supplier of rebels,” said Bose./PN
