4.1K Bacolod learners transfer from private to public schools

BACOLOD City – A total of 4,141 students from private schools in this city transferred to public schools for academic year 2020 to 2021, data from the Department of Education (DepEd) showed.

Gladys Amylaine Sales, City Schools Division superintendent, attributed this to the economic downturn caused by the closure or limited operations of most businesses and establishments.

On the other hand, only 73 learners transferred from public schools to private schools.

For Sales, the decline in enrollment in private schools would be resolved when the country restarts its economy.

With no traditional face-to-face learning, School Year 2020-2021 officially started on Oct. 5.

At the end of the enlistment period earlier this month, a total of 109,867 students from kinder to senior high school had registered in public schools, said Sales.

This figure is 101.3 percent higher from last year’s 109,867, she added.
“The increase in enrollment rate for this school year can be attributed to the extension of enrollment,” Sales explained.

DepEd-Bacolod is still accepting enrollees until the end of this month.

Due to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, the formal education of Bacolodnon students was delayed./PN
