Coronavirus hits 6 frontliners in Oton

ILOILO –  Six personnel of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDDRMO) in Oton, Iloilo tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Because of this, MDDRMO is stopping its operation for a week, according to Jafet Salinas, focal person on COVID-19 of the local government unit (LGU) of Oton.

The MDDRMO personnel were among the frontliners regularly undergoing COVID-19 test.

Right after being informed of the test results, Salinas said they rolled out contact tracing to stop further virus transmission.

The COVID-19-positive MDDRMO personnel were all symptomatic and immediately placed on quarantine.

According to Salinas, the rest of the MDDRMO staff would also be quarantined and tested.

MDRRMO has more or less 30 personnel.

“Starting today (Oct. 19) until Oct. 25 temporary anay nga close ang MDDRMO for disinfection,” Salinas added.

According to Salinas, people should contact the Municipal Health Office at telephone numbers 338-3761.

As of Oct. 18, Oton had 39 active COVID-19 cases, three deaths and 147 recoveries.

Also, the weeklong suspension of arrivals of the locally stranded individuals in the town began today./PN
