MANILA – While they were already volleyball standouts at their young age, Ilongga volleybelles Ana Hermosura and Kaye Nobleza said they would still prioritize education.

The 14-year-old Hermosura admitted that it was tough being a student-athlete of the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts with her team devoting much time on training.

“Basta ako time management lang. May difficulties din minsan sa acads but naba-balance naman,” Hermosura said in an interview with Sports LANG on Sunday night.

Ang dream ko for college is makahampang sa UAAP, makakadto sa nami nga school na makabulig sa future ko because I dreamed to be a lawyer someday,” added the five-foot-six Ilongga who represented Western Visayas in Palarong Pambansa in her elementary days.

Meanwhile, the 13-year-old Nobleza, a standout from the Colegio de las Hijas de Jesus, said she was fortunate that her school put much premium on academics over sports activities.

Basta ako po ay study first,” said the five-foot-seven Nobleza. “I have been playing volleyball since I was encouraged by my mother, who was also a volleyball player. But I made sure I was able to balance it. After training, puli na, gamay na pahinga then study na.”

“I am not sure if I will still be playing volleyball in college since I will be taking up BS Biology,” added Nobleza, who was a member of Team Iloilo elementary girls’ volleyball in last year’s Western Visayas Regional Meet./PN
