ILOILO City – Suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) weighing 60 grams and valued at P600,000 was confiscated in Zone 3, Barangay Boulevard, Molo district.
A seven-month pregnant woman and her companion were arrested by operatives of the Police Regional Office 6’s (PRO-6) Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit and Molo police station.
Eliza May Malfarta, 25, was a resident of Zone 1-B, Barangay San Juan, Molo while Distin Jay Garvelles, 36, was from Summerview Subdivision in Mandurriao district.
They did not know they were being subjected to a buy-bust operation at around 7:05 p.m. An undercover police officer transacted from them P61,000 worth of shabu.
According to PRO-6 spokesperson, Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, the suspects were members of the “Abantao” drug group operating in Molo district.
“But this drug group was already neutralized after their leaders and other members were already arrested, convicted and detained at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City,” said Malong.
Undercover cop Lieutenant Soliman said the recovered shabu was believed to have been sourced from Malfarta’s live-in partner imprisoned at the national penitentiary.
He described the suspects as “storekeepers” of shabu.
“Once they received their stock, they quickly sold it to direct buyers and the buyers would be the one to distribute to street pushers,” said Soliman.
Earlier, Malong said drug peddlers were using couriers or parcels and cargo passing through local ports in transporting illegal drugs.
The suspects were detained at the Molo police station. The police were poised to file a complaint against them for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002./PN
