ILOILO City – An unidentified motorcycle-riding gunman peppered a drug surrenderer with bullets in Barangay Alegre, Oton, Iloilo yesterday.
Aquiles Po was 44 years old. He was a resident of Barangay Baldoza, La Paz district but temporarily resided in Barangay Alegre, according to Police Colonel Gilbert Gorero, director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO).
Po sustained seven gunshot wounds – one on the head and six on the body.
The shooting happened Wednesday at around 8:34 a.m. A motorcycle stopped outside Aquiles’ house, the back-rider got down then entered Po’s house.
Po’s live-in partner Joy Adorna begged the suspect not to kill him but the triggerman fired at the victim anyway then left.
Recovered from the crime scene were spent bullets of a .45-caliber pistol and two live bullets.
Gorero said both the gunman and the latter’s motorcycle driver were wearing helmets and bonnets.
“It’s clear that [Aquiles] was the target. His wife was unharmed,” said Gorero.
Gorero also said the victim was involved in theft and robbery cases in Iloilo City.
For her part, Adorna said Po was a caretaker of a subdivision in Oton that’s why they were temporarily staying there.
She admitted though that the victim was once involved in illegal drugs./PN
