ILOILO City – Western Visayas’ tally of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases further zoomed to over 15,000.
With 137 new infections recorded on Wednesday, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the region is now 15,042, according to the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6.
The additional cases also brought to 3,052 the region’s total active cases.
The province of Negros Occidental has the most number of active cases at 1,238.
Iloilo City came in next with 790 cases, followed by Bacolod City (507); Iloilo province (368); Capiz (118); Aklan (15); Guimaras (10); and Antique (six).
As to the classification of the active cases, 76.08 percent are asymptomatic, 17. 43 percent are mild, 5.18 percent are severe, and 1.21 percent are for verification.
Meanwhile, the number of total recoveries in the region is still higher compared to the actives cases.
Based on the Oct. 21 of DOH-6, the total recovered COVID-19 patients now stand at 11,634 with 102 new recoveries.
Most of the recovered patients are from Bacolod City with 4,021; Iloilo City, 2,744; Negros Occidental, 2,679; Iloilo province, 1,296; Capiz, 565; Guimaras, 152; Aklan, 117; and Antique, 60.
The region’s COVID-19 death cases, on the other hand, are 356. On Wednesday, no death was recorded./PN
