MANILA – The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) has announced its transfer to CIGNAL TV following the failure of ABS-CBN to secure a new network franchise.
In an announcement last night, the UAAP said it has agreed to a deal with the Manny V. Pangilinan-owned network for the next five and a half years. Games will be aired on One Sports Channel five and other channels of Cignal Cable.
“As part of this collaboration, select events of the UAAP will be aired on One Sports channel and its other digital assets, ensuring an engaging and expansive coverage across different multimedia platforms,” the UAAP said.
“Despite the current challenges, the league is looking forward to the partnership as a new chapter that can take the UAAP to greater heights,” the premier collegiate league further said.
The UAAP is targeting to begin its Season 83 by April 2021 with “bubble set up” as among the options with only limited sporting events to be played.
ABS-CBN served as the UAAP’s viewing platform since 2000 with basketball and volleyball games preeminently carried by ABS-CBN Sports + Action./PN
