ANTIQUE – Inclement weather has prompted Governor Rhodora Cadiao to suspend work at the provincial capitol yesterday.
Cadiao issued yesterday morning a Memorandum Order Number 82 on work suspension.
“For the purpose of the lives and limbs of the rank-and-file of the Province of Antique, I do hereby declare that reporting to work today is non-mandatory due to typhoon Quinta which causes heavy rains, isolated flash floods, and non-availability of public transportation in the Province of Antique,” the order stated.
However, Cadiao stressed that offices related to health services and disaster preparedness and response remain open. These are the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, and the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital.
Meanwhile, majority of Antique towns have also suspended work at their respective town halls, as well as classes yesterday. These towns were Barbaza, Belison, Hamtic, Libertad, Pandan, and Valderrama.
Bugasong, Caluya, Culasi, Patnongon, San Jose, and San Remegio towns suspended work, too, in all municipal government offices.
As of 11 a.m. yesterday, the extreme northern portion of Antique (Caluya) was placed under tropical cyclone wind signal No. 2 due to typhoon “Quinta.”
Signal No. 1 was hoisted in Barbaza, Culasi, Laua-an, Libertad, Pandan, Sebaste, and Tibiao.
In an 11 a.m. weather bulletin yesterday, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said typhoon “Quinta” will bring moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Marinduque, northern Palawan including Calamian and Cuyo Islands, CALABARZON, Aurora, Isabela, Quirino, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Aklan, Capiz, and Antique.
The tail-end of a frontal system will likewise bring moderate to heavy rains over Cagayan, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur.
These two weather systems will also bring light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Metro Manila, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and the rest of Luzon.
Flooding (including flash floods) and rain-induced landslides may occur during heavy or prolonged rainfall especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards./PN
