SAN REMIGIO, Antique – Three individuals who were trapped by flood in the center island of Libunan creek in Purok Durog, Barangay Iguirindon here were rescued around noon yesterday.

Mayor Margarito Mission, Jr. said the two adult males and a female failed to immediately leave the area when the water level at the creek rose.
“We are able to rescue the three trapped individuals with the 14 remaining others refusing to do so,” Mission said, adding they left the residents who opted to remain in the care of the barangay captain.
The said persons reside on the center island of the creek.
The rescue operation commenced at around 11 p.m. on Sunday, but had to temporarily stop due to strong water current.
The rescue teams from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) also called off the operation after 14 residents refused to leave.
The rescued individuals were brought to the town’s evacuation center.
Meanwhile, Mission suspended work at the municipal hall because of the heavy rainfall.
He said only personnel of the MDRRMO, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, PNP, BFP, and the mayor’s office were requested to be on duty so they could assist in the rescue operation and respond to any eventuality that may still happen. (With a report from PNA/PN)
